Ways To Reduce Your Postage Costs As A Small Business

September 25, 2021

It is well known amongst business owners that shipping your items can add up to quite a significant cost. No matter the type of product you make, if you sell a physical product then managing shipping costs is always on your radar. While it may seem difficult to lower your shipping costs, it can be beneficial to your overall expenses and may be easier than you think. We have collated some ways, and ideas, for you to consider when lowering the postage costs of your small business. Read on for more information!

Understand How Shipping Costs Are Calculated

Saving on your shipping costs starts with understanding how these figures are calculated. For most postal services, the cost is based on a combination of weight, size, and speed. Commonly, heavier items are charged based on their weight, while larger items that may not weigh very much are charged based on their size.

Be sure to contact your local carrier, and understand exactly how shipping is calculated. Once you have this information, you can optimise it based on your current products. If you are able to make a small change to the size of your box, for example, to bring it down to a lower price bracket, this could mean major savings over the coming months. By purchasing custom made boxes, you can ensure that all your boxes are to a certain size and therefore a particular price bracket; especially if your items are consistent in weight, this will take the pressure out of guessing how much shipping will cost you. At Jetbox, we offer Australian made custom boxes for your small business. With a low minimum order quantity and high quality boxes, there is no better place to order your custom boxes.

You may also consider that when one customer orders multiple items, shipping them together in one large package will be cheaper than sending multiple small boxes. If the items are uniquely shaped, you can fill the shape between them with packing products to ensure they are kept safe.

Optimise Your Packaging By Purchasing the Right Size Box for Your Products

If you are currently using boxes that are much too large for your product, you may be paying a higher fee than necessary. When it comes to the cost of postage, empty space in your box becomes wasted money. It also puts your products at risk of being damaged, as they move around inside the box.

Be sure to order the perfect sized boxes for your products to potentially reduce the cost of postage and protect your items in transit.

Consider the Difference in Cost for Delivery Times

For most carriers, express postage incurs extra cost. If you are looking to reduce your postage fee, consider offering standard postage to your customers. By reserving express postage for customers who really need it, you can save on the cost of postage more often than not. It is also common for businesses who do offer express to do so at a set fee, to help cover the extra cost you will incur.

Purchase Small Quantities of High Quality Boxes with Jetbox

When working with a budget, there is nothing worse than having to buy your postage boxes in bulk; especially when you only need a certain amount. The extra money spent on unused stock could go towards other areas in your business, and reduce the overall expenses your business incurs. At Jetbox, we offer small runs for our custom and standard sized boxes, meaning you don’t need to purchase hundreds of boxes at a time! Our custom boxes are often more affordable than you think, and offer quality protection for your items. Order your custom boxes in the perfect size to cut down on postage costs and prevent unused boxes from stacking up.

Don’t Sacrifice on Quality with Australian Made Packaging and Postage Boxes

When cutting costs, it is important to not sacrifice quality. While you may find some products to be more affordable, they often cut corners and do not provide the quality your business prides itself on. How To Pack Your TV Box

We understand that packing TV’s without the original packaging can be a stressful task.

Every Jetbox TV will be supplied with more than enough bubble wrap to wrap any size TV!

To put your TV box together, follow these instructions:

  1. Please start by taping the bottom of the box – pre-fold the flaps to make it easier to close.

  2. Use a blanket to cover your TV before applying bubble wrap.

  3. Lay it down (if the manufacturer recommendations specify that you can) and wrap it in bubble horizontally.

  4. Then wrap again vertically ensuring the corners, front and back are covered well. Tape up the bubble so that it doesn’t come undone.

  5. You can then slide the TV into the box, make sure it fits snugly and close the box with some strong tape.

Bulky Item Delivery Terms & Conditions

Some of our products are large, heavy and bulky and require extra care or special shipping. If your order requires a forklift we will advise before delivery, and if no forklift is available upon delivery a surcharge will apply.

Bulky deliveries that require hand delivery (but no forklift) to the first floor or above and require stair or lift access will also be subject to a delivery surcharge. If you advise at checkout that your delivery is above the ground floor, we will be in touch regarding the surcharge. This surcharge is from $50 per pallet.

Over & Under Runs

Manufacturing processes require machinery to work at quite high speeds. During production, some sheets may be damaged and need to be replaced. In some instances, we cannot replace the sheets at that time and you will be met with a slightly lower Quantity than ordered. This amount will be credited to you.

In most cases though, there will be overruns, as the machinery cannot come to a complete stop in an instant – we require a gradual slow down, which will give us more cartons produced, than what are ordered. These overruns are payable by the client. And taking them also helps save on recycling, which is more sustainable and better for the Environment in the long term.

If you require EXACT Quantities, we may have to make some boxes in a different grade than ordered, to make up your order in the Exact Qty required. These requests will also Incur higher unit costs. This cannot be avoided, as we must consider the recycling processes and costs involved, in helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
