Jetbox The 10 Best eCommerce Packaging Tips

The 10 Best eCommerce Packaging Tips

One of the most important parts of running your eCommerce business is organising the packaging. Your items are going to be shipped around the globe, and the safety of your items is reliant on the quality of your packaging. Don’t forget the importance of branding either – your packaging techniques are made unique by the details. If you know your product, your business and your customers, managing your packaging can be easy, especially if you follow our top tips. Read on for everything you need to consider before choosing your packaging!

Tip #1: Know Your Product

While you know your product better than anyone else, we want you to really take a look at your product. What are its dimensions? How much does it weigh? How fragile is it, where are the potential weak spots? All of these details are key in choosing the right packaging and protection. Using stronger cardboard, extra bubble wrap or a number of other precautions can help protect your items during transport.

Tip #2: Choose a Shipping Box that’s Right For Your Product

There are many shipping boxes available online these days, but not every box is the same. When choosing shipping boxes for your small business, an Australian owned business like Jetbox is always the way to go. Not only are our boxes manufactured in Australia, you can ask us any and all questions you have about production to ensure the highest quality. New boxes provide the highest quality protection, and custom made boxes provide the best protection with less room for your items to move around in.

Tip #3: Understand Your Box Doesn’t Have to be Extra Fancy

While it may feel like you have to go all out with your packaging from day one, minimalist packaging can be just as effective. Not only is minimalist packaging simple and memorable, it is also more environmentally friendly – which may play into your brand messaging. For example, a standard box with a logo sticker or label can be a clean design option for new businesses. There are other ways you can grow trust with your customers outside of branding, such as thank you cards and discounts for repeat orders.

Tip #4: Small Details Go a Long Way

Don’t forget the importance of using new boxes, new packaging materials and quality information and thank you cards. Create a strong first impression with well thought out items that arrive safely.

Tip #5: Ensure There is as Little Wasted Space As Possible

If you buy premade boxes you run the risk of your items not fitting, or leaving too much space around them. If you ship your item in a box that is too big, you run into a few problems: the item can roll around causing damage, and you end up paying more than necessary for shipping. You also spend more on packaging fillers like bubble wrap or butchers paper. Custom boxes are an easy, reliable solution – at Jetbox, we offer a low MOQ for all of our custom box orders. Visit our website for more information!

Tip #6: Show Your Customers You Appreciate them!

We know that everyone loves to feel appreciated. Help your customers know you appreciate them and their purchase with a special, personal touch – a handwritten thank you, a card, an extra goodie all work in bringing a smile to any customer’s face.

Tip #7: Protect Your Items with Quality Packaging Tape

High quality tape is a lifesaver for your business. Not only does it keep your box from falling open, it helps to prevent the box from being opened by someone other than the recipient. While it may be tempting to save money on cheap tape, it won’t save you money in the long run with boxes falling open during transport and shipping.

Tip #8: Double Check Customer Details

A little trick to save yourself time, and prevent items from arriving at the wrong address or being returned, is to double check customer addresses. Nothing is worse than having to wait for an order that was meant to arrive! Verify customer addresses before shipping to avoid shipping headaches.

Tip #9: Ship Your Items at the Best Time

We generally recommend shipping your items Monday through Wednesday, for faster delivery times. Especially for next day orders, shipping later in the week poses the risk of it being left in a delivery centre over the weekend.

Tip #10: Ask Your Customers For Their Feedback

Feedback is the best way for you and your business to improve and grow. It also helps to build an ongoing connection with clients and customers. There are a few ways you can ask for feedback, including surveys or a simple email. Take their feedback into consideration for your next products and packaging options.

How To Pack Your TV Box

We understand that packing TV’s without the original packaging can be a stressful task.

Every Jetbox TV will be supplied with more than enough bubble wrap to wrap any size TV!

To put your TV box together, follow these instructions:

  1. Please start by taping the bottom of the box – pre-fold the flaps to make it easier to close.

  2. Use a blanket to cover your TV before applying bubble wrap.

  3. Lay it down (if the manufacturer recommendations specify that you can) and wrap it in bubble horizontally.

  4. Then wrap again vertically ensuring the corners, front and back are covered well. Tape up the bubble so that it doesn’t come undone.

  5. You can then slide the TV into the box, make sure it fits snugly and close the box with some strong tape.

Bulky Item Delivery Terms & Conditions

Some of our products are large, heavy and bulky and require extra care or special shipping. If your order requires a forklift we will advise before delivery, and if no forklift is available upon delivery a surcharge will apply.

Bulky deliveries that require hand delivery (but no forklift) to the first floor or above and require stair or lift access will also be subject to a delivery surcharge. If you advise at checkout that your delivery is above the ground floor, we will be in touch regarding the surcharge. This surcharge is from $50 per pallet.

Over & Under Runs

Manufacturing processes require machinery to work at quite high speeds. During production, some sheets may be damaged and need to be replaced. In some instances, we cannot replace the sheets at that time and you will be met with a slightly lower Quantity than ordered. This amount will be credited to you.

In most cases though, there will be overruns, as the machinery cannot come to a complete stop in an instant – we require a gradual slow down, which will give us more cartons produced, than what are ordered. These overruns are payable by the client. And taking them also helps save on recycling, which is more sustainable and better for the Environment in the long term.

If you require EXACT Quantities, we may have to make some boxes in a different grade than ordered, to make up your order in the Exact Qty required. These requests will also Incur higher unit costs. This cannot be avoided, as we must consider the recycling processes and costs involved, in helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
