For flat things that must not bend.
Framed work, prints, canvases, panels and signage all want the same thing from a box: a flat, tight fit so nothing moves, and board that keeps a corner from taking the hit. We make folders to the size of the work, one at a time or by the hundred.
The box we usually make for this is the corner-cut folder.
It is one piece of board that folds up around the work and closes over the top, so the frame sits flat on the base with the walls tight against it. It takes a tape across the top and is done.
For long, thin things like a rolled print tube or a run of panels, the five-panel folder wraps with a full overlap. For extra strength and dust protection we also make the folder with side flaps, the one piece folder, which is a phone order for now.
The size, the number and the board, in that order.
Measure the frame or the work at its widest points, add the corner protectors or the bubble you will wrap it in, then add about 10 mm each way. The height is the thickness of the work plus the wrap. The sizes you type are internal sizes.
Artists order one or two for a show or a commission. Framers and print shops order fifty at a time in the sizes they sell most. Either way the price is on the screen before you order, and the box is the same each time.
Single wall does prints, canvases and small frames. Large frames, glass and anything going interstate get double wall, which costs more but holds a corner.
A common starting point
A corner-cut folder at 600 x 400 x 100 mm internal takes an A2 frame with corner protectors and bubble. Open it in the calculator with these numbers in, change them to your work, and the price is on the screen.
