How a Custom Box Is Perfect For Subscription Boxes

May 25, 2023

Over the last five years, subscription boxes have taken over the internet. From an unknown to most, subscription boxes are now well known and well received across Australia, America and the UK. The packaging for your subscription boxes is your secret weapon, and can make or break a customer’s impression of your brand and service. Subscription boxes exist for all sorts of services and products; but no matter what you’re offering, all subscription boxes work in the same way. Your customer will pay a monthly, bi-monthly or other assigned price and receive mystery goodies in the mail in accordance with these payments!

There is nothing more exciting than receiving a package, and subscription boxes take this excitement to another level. From dog toys to overseas treats, art supplies to socks, subscription boxes are a fantastic choice for all demographics. Now onto the important part – designing your subscription box packaging. It is important to design a box that appeals to your audience, and is the perfect size for your products. A box too big or too small will make packing fiddly, shipping more expensive than it needs to be and all round look unprofessional. At Jetbox, we are custom box manufacturing experts. Read on for all our tips and tricks on designing the perfect custom box for your subscription service.

Choosing the Right Size Subscription Box

Custom made boxes, like those at Jetbox, are fully customised to your needs. Our boxes can be made in any style, with any cardboard grade, with a small minimum order quantity. If you are shipping the same sized product every month, or sample a book or pairs of socks, then choosing a box size is easy. We understand that if there are months where product size varies, you may be stocking multiple box sizes – but this is not necessary. At Jetbox, we can work with you to design a perfect subscription box that will accommodate all your products, while allowing you to have fun with the packaging layout. Generally we recommend you design your boxes to accommodate the largest possible items you ship, so there is no need to squeeze items in or potentially damage them. There are lots of void fill options, such as bubble wrap and bio-fill, to help fill any empty spaces for months where your product is smaller.

Having the same size box makes storing your boxes easy – all one size means no messing around trying to find the ideal size, and assembly is a breeze as it’s the same every time. Changing the size of your box every month eats into costs, and affects your budget. Using the same size boxes, from a reliable Australian supplier, every month allows you to maintain a predictable cost and therefore predictable income.

Choosing your Custom Subscription Box Packaging Style

When it comes to custom boxes, you may be surprised at the wide range of box styles available. To narrow it down for you, the 3 boxes we recommend for subscription boxes are below:

1. Custom Die Cut Box

This box is the traditional subscription box style design. A lid that lifts open from the front side to reveal the entire inside and contents of the box. Small flaps at the front fold into the sides of the box to keep it securely closed. Comes in brown and white – easy for you to customise with stickers or a stamp!

2. Custom Printed RSC Box

This box is perfect for those wanting to make a splash with their boxes! Our Custom Printed RSC Boxes are printed with your logo or specific design. Using up to 3 colours, you can catch the eye of not only your customer but anyone who sees the box during transit. These are strong and durable boxes, ideal for long travel or heavier products.

3. Custom FF5PF Box

This box also has a lid that lifts open from the front, but it’s design allows for the bottom flaps to go completely flat. If you want to create a dramatic opening – this is the box for you!

How To Pack Your TV Box

We understand that packing TV’s without the original packaging can be a stressful task.

Every Jetbox TV will be supplied with more than enough bubble wrap to wrap any size TV!

To put your TV box together, follow these instructions:

  1. Please start by taping the bottom of the box – pre-fold the flaps to make it easier to close.

  2. Use a blanket to cover your TV before applying bubble wrap.

  3. Lay it down (if the manufacturer recommendations specify that you can) and wrap it in bubble horizontally.

  4. Then wrap again vertically ensuring the corners, front and back are covered well. Tape up the bubble so that it doesn’t come undone.

  5. You can then slide the TV into the box, make sure it fits snugly and close the box with some strong tape.

Bulky Item Delivery Terms & Conditions

Some of our products are large, heavy and bulky and require extra care or special shipping. If your order requires a forklift we will advise before delivery, and if no forklift is available upon delivery a surcharge will apply.

Bulky deliveries that require hand delivery (but no forklift) to the first floor or above and require stair or lift access will also be subject to a delivery surcharge. If you advise at checkout that your delivery is above the ground floor, we will be in touch regarding the surcharge. This surcharge is from $50 per pallet.

Over & Under Runs

Manufacturing processes require machinery to work at quite high speeds. During production, some sheets may be damaged and need to be replaced. In some instances, we cannot replace the sheets at that time and you will be met with a slightly lower Quantity than ordered. This amount will be credited to you.

In most cases though, there will be overruns, as the machinery cannot come to a complete stop in an instant – we require a gradual slow down, which will give us more cartons produced, than what are ordered. These overruns are payable by the client. And taking them also helps save on recycling, which is more sustainable and better for the Environment in the long term.

If you require EXACT Quantities, we may have to make some boxes in a different grade than ordered, to make up your order in the Exact Qty required. These requests will also Incur higher unit costs. This cannot be avoided, as we must consider the recycling processes and costs involved, in helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
