4 Steps To Choosing The Right Custom Cardboard Box

June 27, 2023

Custom cardboard boxes are game changers for all business owners. From eCommerce businesses to brick and mortar stores, custom cardboard boxes allow you to pack, ship and store your items with ease.  It takes only 4 steps to choose the right custom cardboard box for your needs. When you begin your custom cardboard box journey, you may find yourself asking how do you know which box style to choose? What is a board grade and how does it affect my box? We are here to help break down every step of choosing the perfect custom box for your needs, making it easier than ever to order custom boxes from the comfort of your home! Keep reading to learn how to choose the right custom corrugated cardboard box for your business.

Step 1: Select a Box Style

There are so many different styles of boxes available for you to choose from. The choice you make depends largely on what your boxes will be used for. If you own an eCommerce business, and will be shipping smaller products then the Custom Die Cut Gift Box is perfect. This box is self sealing, and provides a dramatic unboxing experience. Available in brown and white, you can easily customise this box with stickers and more!

The perfect all rounder is the Custom Printed RSC Box. This box comes with your custom logo or design printed directly onto the box! This Regular Slotted Container box style is available in a range of sizes, and has flaps that fold together and meet in the centre of the box. Used for storage and shipping, these boxes can hold food, bulkier products and have room for extra padding to keep fragile items safe.

If you are shipping large or fiddly shaped items, then our Custom RSC Boxes are the perfect go-to! Available to suit your needs, these large boxes can be made with any board grade (we’ll touch on different board grades soon!) to provide fantastic insulation and protection.

Step 2: How to Gather Measurements for your Custom Box

Calculating your measurements correctly is especially important when it comes to custom boxes. The key thing to keep in mind when providing measurements is that the dimensions you provide must refer to the internal dimensions. The internal space is the usable space, not the outside of the box. If you need a visual of this, you can see example diagrams in our blog all about measuring for your custom box. Remember to leave room for any padding such as bubble wrap in your boxes.

Measurements need to be provided in this order: length x width x height. Length is always the longest horizontal measurement of your box, width is the shortest horizontal measurement and height is the vertical measurement when the box is sitting upright.

Step 3: Understanding Corrugated Cardboard for your Custom Box

What is corrugated cardboard? Corrugated cardboard is cardboard that has a crinkled piece of material between 2 or more sheets of rigid cardboard. Corrugated cardboard is extra strong, thanks to the extra layer between the boards. All our custom cardboard boxes at Jetbox are made using corrugated cardboard, and this can be customised to have extra layers if needed.

Step 4: Choosing Box Grades for your Custom Cardboard Boxes

At Jetbox, we have a wide range of box grades for you to choose from. A box grade refers to the thickness and design of the cardboard.

Some of our more popular box grades are as below:

4C or B – Medium strength single corrugated cardboard used for packing books, paper or anything with weight. Best for products that can support themselves and don’t require much additional packaging.

1C or B – Strong single corrugated cardboard used to help support your items during storage. Ideal for stacking.

3C or B – The most commonly used board grade. Ideal for almost all light weight items. Provides protection and support without adding much additional weight.

You can find your full range of Box Grades on our website.

How To Pack Your TV Box

We understand that packing TV’s without the original packaging can be a stressful task.

Every Jetbox TV will be supplied with more than enough bubble wrap to wrap any size TV!

To put your TV box together, follow these instructions:

  1. Please start by taping the bottom of the box – pre-fold the flaps to make it easier to close.

  2. Use a blanket to cover your TV before applying bubble wrap.

  3. Lay it down (if the manufacturer recommendations specify that you can) and wrap it in bubble horizontally.

  4. Then wrap again vertically ensuring the corners, front and back are covered well. Tape up the bubble so that it doesn’t come undone.

  5. You can then slide the TV into the box, make sure it fits snugly and close the box with some strong tape.

Bulky Item Delivery Terms & Conditions

Some of our products are large, heavy and bulky and require extra care or special shipping. If your order requires a forklift we will advise before delivery, and if no forklift is available upon delivery a surcharge will apply.

Bulky deliveries that require hand delivery (but no forklift) to the first floor or above and require stair or lift access will also be subject to a delivery surcharge. If you advise at checkout that your delivery is above the ground floor, we will be in touch regarding the surcharge. This surcharge is from $50 per pallet.

Over & Under Runs

Manufacturing processes require machinery to work at quite high speeds. During production, some sheets may be damaged and need to be replaced. In some instances, we cannot replace the sheets at that time and you will be met with a slightly lower Quantity than ordered. This amount will be credited to you.

In most cases though, there will be overruns, as the machinery cannot come to a complete stop in an instant – we require a gradual slow down, which will give us more cartons produced, than what are ordered. These overruns are payable by the client. And taking them also helps save on recycling, which is more sustainable and better for the Environment in the long term.

If you require EXACT Quantities, we may have to make some boxes in a different grade than ordered, to make up your order in the Exact Qty required. These requests will also Incur higher unit costs. This cannot be avoided, as we must consider the recycling processes and costs involved, in helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
